It is easy to be tempted by all of the salvage title cars for sale. After all, if you're willing to take a salvage car title, you can get what appears to be a much nicer car for the same amount of money. But honestly, by buying a car with a salvage title, you are taking a gamble, and one which is not worth it. No matter what they tell you, and no matter how many mechanics have checked out a salvaged car, there is a much more significant chance that something will go wrong down the road.

You see, with a salvage car title, you never know what is really going on deep inside the engine of the vehicles without taking everything apart. A salvage car title can appear to be fixed, and can be fixed well enough to be running smooth for the moment, and still be on the way to equipment failure much earlier than a normal car. I am a mechanic, and I know a lot about how to fix a badly damaged car, but even I would not buy a salvage car title. It is just not worth it.

I actually had a cousin who made this mistake. He bought a salvage car title 1968 Mustang. When he first got the car it ran like a dream, and he got it for almost nothing. Despite my belief in salvage car titles, I was honestly jealous at the time. I did not stay jealous for long, though. He almost suffered a tragedy as a result of getting the car. One of the suspension struts was badly damaged in a way that was hard to see, even with a close inspection. The salvage car title Mustang worked fine, but it was only a matter of time before the weakened suspension collapsed. It collapsed on the freeway, and it almost caused a crash. It was a miracle that he was alright.

It is not enough to not intentionally buy a salvaged car title. Sometimes, a used car that you are looking at will have a salvage car title and you will not even know. Although it is illegal, and anyone selling a salvage car title without informing the buyer can get into serious trouble, nonetheless it does take place more often than you would think. Fortunately, there are services such as Carfax which will tell you whether the vehicle that you are looking at has a salvage car title.
