Charity Events

Since the death of Steve Irwin, a lot of the people I know have been talking about how to help the animals that he loved, and many have talked about holding charity events in his honor. This is a great idea, but don’t forget, there are other causes just as worthy, and you don’t have to wait for a special time to give. You don’t even have to give a lot. Charity events don’t have to be expensive either, and you don’t even have to go in order to give money.

The charity events you probably think of first are expensive sit down dinners in which you pay a hefty amount for the food, and the profits go to a charity. These are fine, but they are not the only game in town. Charity events can be anything you make them, and you don’t have to have a lot of money to throw one. If you really put your mind to it, you can come up with charity events to help your favorite charities, and you can make a difference in the world no matter how much or how little money you have.

The most common charity events in my community are benefit concerts. These can benefit a family or individual in need, or they can be held for a hospital or other worthy charity. Some are for animals, and others help needy children. Often bands are asked to play, and many others also donate their time to see that the event runs smoothly. Usually the sound engineer, the ushers, ticket takers, concessions, and the host are all free. Every cent that comes in the door goes straight to the cause. In many cases, the venue even donates the use of their property for charity events, but not all will do this.

If you want to hold your own charity events, find out if there are any rules and regulations in your state about having them. Make sure you put time and energy into advertising your events, and make sure you contact local television and radio about free spots. For the most part, stations will give you free time for advertising charity events. You should also call around to find sponsors for your event, as this may allow you to get a lot of the supplies you need for free or at a very low cost. Make sure you are open and honest about where the money is going, because there have been scam charity events held in communities, and people are wary of giving their money to just anyone.
